The simple truth of the job market is that clever entrepenurers can take advantage of change in a way that makes them and their workers money.

The news that hundreds of RBC bank employees will be laid off in the coming months was not well received.

But those employees all have training and skills other businesses can use. Already, a local firm that installs and monitors computer information systems for other companies is asking RBC employees to send in their job applications.

Employment agencies around the region are echoing that call, wanting a chance to place skilled workers in job openings throughout the state.

The pharmaceutical company Hospira announced this week that it wants to hire more employees for its local facility.

The company’s Rocky Mount manufacturing plant will hold a job fair from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Feb. 7 at the Imperial Centre at 270 Gay St.

The company is looking for candidates to fill open positions in manufacturing and production, maintenance, engineering, quality control, chemistry and biological sciences.
