Dr. Jim Gray’s retirement announcement this week comes as bittersweet news to N.C. Wesleyan College – and to the Rocky Mount community at large.
It’s a congratulatory moment for Gray, who will leave the college in great shape after six years at the helm. But Wesleyan will miss his leadership, and Rocky Mount will miss the partnership he enthusiastically developed with the community.
Gray steered Wesleyan on a course that raised the profile of the school and of Eastern North Carolina. During Gray’s reign, Wesleyan has played host to an important forum discussion of economic issues, opened its doors to a gubernatorial candidates debate in 2012 and, most recently, broken ground on a new entreprenurial education center.
Gray leaves the college and the community in better shape than he found them. We wish him well in his retirement and look forward to Wesleyan’s continued growth and success.
