Common Core repeal raises questions

It’s hard to say exactly what the N.C. General Assembly and Gov. Pat McCrory did this week to Common Core standards in North Carolina.

Didn’t they kill the concept altogether, as the “repeal” bill signed into law would suggest?

Well, not exactly. The governor and legislative leaders say whatever new curriculum is devised to take the place of Common Core might include parts of the Common Core program that appear to be working.

So is there a new curriculum already waiting in the wings for North Carolina teachers, students and other educators to implement?

Well, no. But there’s going to be. And it will have to be approved by the N.C. State Board of Education.

So what will be taught to North Carolina students this fall?

The Common Core curriculum.

And that’s bad?

Yes. Because parents don’t like it.

Ah. One has to wonder how it ever passed in the first place.

Well, McCrory used to like it. Even as recently as last month, he said that doing away with Common Core was “not a smart move.” And former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie like it.

And it was implemented by more than 40 states before ... well ... before some of the states, like North Carolina, started repealing it.

So, wait ... it held every student in the country to a common standard? What were they thinking?

Chambers of commerce and private business executives kind of liked that concept. It meant that a student in North Carolina would be graded on the same material as a student in another state.

So what does the future look like now?

right wing nonsense

Most of wised up to right wing nonsense long ago. Now its your turn and you may wish to get a life at the same time.

Dumbing down of the United States………….

Common core is the further dumbing down of our population as has happened since the Brown versus the Board of Education decision of the Supreme Court!!!

Apparently you haven’t looked at the common core instructional material and/or the common core testing material, it is time that you did!!! Or is that you support an uneducated population being guided into socialism??? When did 2 plus 2 equal anything but 4. Under common core 2 plus 2 can equal whatever the student determines it to equal using common core instructional material……

A Good Idea?

Common core might have been a good idea, but like everything else Washington gets involved in, it went south quickly. The basic problem is that the Obama regime tried to use the program to push their liberal, socialist, might as well say communist, agenda. If we continue to let this guy make policiy, we'll be a third-world country before his "reign" is over. Wise up!
