Protecting tax cuts for the rich undermines what America stands for

Here’s a question for the Republican candidates and the Tea Party: Why won’t you tax that top 1 percent of the population whose income has increased by 275 percent in the last 27 years, while the working class has seen their income stagnate and fall in the same period of time, while corporations like General Electric have made $25 billion in profits in one year, but not paid a penny in taxes?

I know you consider yourselves good Christians, or at least decent people, but how can you let this situation go on while there are more than 14 million families who are homeless and there are millions of little children who have no medical or dental insurance, while the wealthy drink $25,000 bottles of wine, and wear million-dollar jewelry on their bodies. And yet the Republicans and Tea Party say, it would not be fair or right to tax the wealthy.

I would say to let the millions of families who are homeless, and the millions of children who have no medical insurance, to go without, is not fair or right. In fact, this situation is absolutely immoral.

What makes this truly sad is that we are the richest and most powerful nation in the world, and what message are we sending to the rest of the world? That it is all right for millions of your citizens to live in poverty while the rich jet around the world in their million-dollar planes and live in multi-million-dollar palaces, while millions of working class people are losing their homes.
