A 24-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man are behind bars after investigators seized cocaine, marijuana, drug packaging materials, money and a gun from their vehicle and home.

The Rocky Mount police Street Engagement Team stopped a vehicle Wednesday after receiving information about Banita Renee Battle, 24, and Lorenzo Marcellus Brown, 19, allegedly dealing drugs. Officers found 58.6 grams of marijuana, 0.8 grams of crack cocaine, $720 and seized the 1994 Toyota Camery.

The seizure then led investigators to obtain a search warrant for Battle’s home on the 7100 block of Bulluck School Road in Edgecombe County.

Deputies then searched the home and seized 247 grams of marijuana, drug packaging materials and a handgun. Since Battle has a criminal record, including a felony larceny charge, she is prohibited from owning a gun.

She was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of drug paraphernalia, two counts of possession of marijuana with the intent to sell/deliver, two felony counts of possession of marijuana, two counts of maintaining a vehicle or dwelling place for the storage of drugs, conspiracy to sell/deliver marijuana, possession of cocaine with the intent to sell or deliver and felony possession of cocaine.

She was placed in the Edgecombe County Detention Center under a $35,000 secured bond.

Brown was charged with conspiracy to sell marijuana and conspiracy to sell cocaine. He was placed in the Edgecombe County Detention Center under a $5,000 secured bond.
