Rocky Mount police officers have seen a rise in fraudulent prescriptions in recent weeks and are seeking help from the public.

“Suspects are stealing prescription pads and going to pharmacies then trying to pass them off to get OxyContin or Percacet,” said Beth Carlton with the Rocky Mount Police Department criminal investigative division.

Carlton said the pharmacies are talking to each other and realizing what is happening, but they need help identifying the suspects.

“We are creating a hot sheet so these guys will be flagged and the pharmacies will call local law enforcement,” she said. “We are also getting with doctor’s offices so they report missing prescription pads.”
