Police investigate morning shooting

A local man is in stable condition after being shot by an unknown suspect early Wednesday morning.

Rocky Mount police responded to a call around 12:25 a.m. to the 700 block of East Grand Avenue where they found Roderick Shornell Battle, 39, who was shot twice in the lower back. Battle was transported to Nash General Hospital and later to Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville.
