Police investigate stabbing death

Rocky Mount police are investigating a Wednesday night domestic assault that left a man dead.

According to police reports, officers responded shortly before 8 p.m. to a house on the 1500 block of Sunset Avenue, where a 61-year-old man was found with stab wounds. The victim was taken to Nash General Hospital and transferred to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, where he died.

Authorities said the incident has been deemed a domestic aggravated assault and not a murder, pending the results of an autopsy. The victim’s family lives out of state and his identity will be released after they are notified of the death.
