RALEIGH — The N.C. Highway Patrol says seven people were killed in traffic accidents during the Fourth of July holiday weekend, half the number that died in 2013.

The holiday weekend began at 6 p.m. on Thursday, July 3, and ended at midnight, Sunday, July 6. Last year, 14 people died in the period between July 3-7.

A statement from the N.C. Department of Public Safety said troopers investigated seven collisions that resulted in the seven deaths.
