Almost 300 students at O.R. Pope Elementary School could be moved to different schools beginning this fall, according to a proposal from Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools officials.
The proposed move will be the topic of a public hearing planned for 6 p.m. July 8 at the school at 226 Coleman Ave.
The public hearing will give parents a chance to offer feedback to the Nash-Rocky Mount Board of Education.
Each speaker at the public hearing will have three minutes to address the school board. Board members will listen to comments but will not respond at that time.
The recommended plan for Pope Elementary is to move the Pope student body to D.S. Johnson and Fairview Elementary schools at the beginning of the 2014-15 school year.
The proposal would move kindergarten through second-grade students to Fairview and move third- through fifth-grade students to Johnson and change the name of Fairview Elementary School to O.R. Pope Elementary effective at the beginning of the 2014-15 school year.
