Authorities said a Rocky Mount man recently was charged in connection with collecting and sharing child pornography for two decades.
Danforth Ellett, 51, was charged with 10 counts of exploitation of a minor. He was jailed in Nash County under a $150,000 secured bond.
Nash County sheriff’s deputies worked with N.C. State Bureau of Investigation agents to conduct a search warrant on May 7 at Ellett’s home on the 2300 block of Cash Lane in Rocky Mount. During the search, authorities seized a large quantity of child pornography on computer hard drives and CDs.
“He admitted to investigators that he had a terabyte of space and 90 percent of it was filled with pornography,” Nash County Lt. Todd Wells said.
Ellett is not a registered sex offender nor did he have any prior charges. Wells said the investigation was spurred from a tip submitted through The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children Website.
Wells said the investigation into Ellett is ongoing as there was a child unrelated to Ellett in the home during the investigation. Additional charges might be forthcoming.
