Tarboro teen killed in Christmas Day car crash

Rocky Mount police are investigating the cause of a one-car crash on Christmas morning that took the life of a Tarboro teenager.

Authorities said officers responded around 8:40 a.m. to a wreck on N.C. 97 and Pridgen Road in which a Jeep reportedly went off the road. According to police reports, a black Jeep Wrangler went off the right side of the road, down an embankment and struck a tree. The 19-year-old driver, Brandon Charles Murphy, was dead when officers arrived.

The wreck is under investigation. It is unclear if alcohol or speed was a factor in the wreck. Anyone with information is asked to call 972-1481.
