The principals of Englewood Elementary and Benvenue Elementary schools altered schedules Friday over a rumor of a possible “community incident” that reportedly was posted on a social media website, a Nash-Rocky Mount Schools official said.
The principals canceled outdoors recess as a precaution, according to Ashley Simmons, who is the chief public information officer of Nash-Rocky Mount Schools.
A handful of callers contacted the Telegram about the schedule changes, but Simmons said there were no incidents reported Friday at Englewood or Benvenue.
Simmons emphasized the difference between a rumor and an actual threat. Principals have the authority to change schedules at their own discretion, she said.
