On May 31, Faith Christian School celebrated the graduation of the school’s 20th class.
Teachers, parents, and board members from over the years were in attendance along with the very first graduates from 1994. Under the leadership of Head of School, Dr. Edward Bunn, FCS will continue its 20th year celebration throughout the 2013-14 school year.
During the past twenty years FCS has grown from 120 students in grades 1st-12th to over 400 students in grades Pre-K thru 12th with quality programs in five primary areas: spiritual life, academics, athletics, fine arts, and leadership. Students now attend one campus with separate state of the art buildings for each school level and fully lighted athletic fields and courts. FCS is dually accredited through the Association of Christian Schools International and AdvancED. All teachers are certified and are teaching in the subject matter of training and expertise.
With small teacher/student ratios, an enhanced technology program, academic goals for the incorporation of critical thinking, writing across the curriculum, biblical integration, and focused instruction in athletics and fine arts, FCS sets a high priority on creating well-rounded leaders prepared for 21st century college and career readiness.
Academic rigor offers AP courses beginning at the 9th grade level. This provides a strong foundation and enables students to continually score above the National average in AP test results. Local internship programs partnering with businesses and schools enable students to better choose their field of study when considering college admissions. FCS also offers multiple academic tracks and student success plans so that every student excels.
Numerous full ride scholarships and millions of dollars in merit based awards have been granted to FCS graduates.
Current teacher and alumna Mrs. Mary Kate Lanier said, “Having now been on both sides, a student and a teacher, I am much more aware and grateful for the kind of education I received at FCS. I truly felt prepared and ready for college because of the education and teaching I received here but, even more so, I was confident of who I was. I was able, by the grace of God, to spend my college years firmly standing on my faith in part because of the encouragement and prayers I received constantly throughout my years at Faith.”
Senior Bailey Parks, class of 2014, said, “Faith Christian has not only provided a strong educational foundation but also a firm Biblical foundation that has helped me grow stronger.”
One of the initiatives of student life at Faith Christian is to make a difference in the local community, our nation, and around the world.
Faith students attend local and global missionary trips on a regular basis and participate in academic global perspective programs of which a recent course culminated in the study of Italian culture and a trip to Italy.
As a part of the 20 year celebration, the Student Government Association and Spiritual Life Director have developed a local and global ministry focus for each month: collecting school supplies for Kingsway Park (August); road clean up in partnership with the Environmental Club & Keep America Beautiful (September); canned food drive for the Basset Center (October); Operation Christmas Child (November); Toys for Tots (December); church planting in Africa (January); HIS Radio cards for children in the hospital and people in local nursing homes (February); Hoops for Hope (March); Relay for Life (April); and Rocky Mount Fun Run (May).
FCS has a 20-year history of creating well-roundel leaders and sending young men and women into the world prepared to change it for the better.
The school combines academics and spiritual growth into a daily routine.
