A Rocky Mount man and a teenager died Monday following a fire at a Nashville home.
Authorities said police and firefighters responded about 12:30 p.m. to a structure fire on the 200 block of North Lumber Street, where fire damage was discovered in a back room of the house. According to police reports, the fire was not burning when crews arrived, but two people were found in a back bedroom of the home.
Joseph Christopher Williams, 53, died en route to the hospital, police said. An unidentified 13-year-old boy was taken to Nash General Hospital and transferred to Chapel Hill, where he also died from his injuries.
Nashville Police Chief Thomas Bashore said the cause of death for the victims is unknown and autopsies will be conducted.
