Authorities recovered the body of a Maryland man Thursday from the Tar River.
Divers found the body of Cameron Edward Jones, 25, of Upper Marlboro, Md., just after noon, Capt. Pat Joyner of the Nash County Sheriff’s Office said.
Authorities began searching for Jones after an N.C. Highway Patrol trooper discovered an unoccupied 2006 Hyundai with its engine running just before 3 a.m. along Interstate 95. Joyner said Maryland authorities provided local investigators with the identity of the car’s owner and indicated that he might have done harm to himself.
“The car was parked right by the bridge,” Joyner said. “It was just natural to search that area.”
There were no signs of injuries on the body, Joyner said, and investigators are treating the death as a probable suicide. The body has been sent to the medical examiner’s office for an autopsy.
