No one was injured Friday morning when a fire broke out at a day care center in Princeville.

Princeville Fire Chief Billy Boddie said the owner of Angel of Faith Daycare was taking five kids from her home at 620 King Ave. to the attached day care when she saw the flames and evacuated the center.

“Upon our arrival, we saw flames coming out of the day care’s front windows,” Boddie said.

Firefighters from the Princeville, Speed, Tarboro, Conetoe and Lewis Community fire departments spent about an hour getting the blaze under control, officials said. Boddie said the day care facility is likely a total loss, and heat and smoke damage to the house might make the house unsalvageable, too.

The origin and cause of the fire are under investigation. Boddie said the day care owner refused assistance from the American Red Cross.
