WILMINGTON— A North Carolina man will serve 14 years in federal prison for stealing more than $1.2 million in an armored car heist.

Charles Richard Moore Jr. of Timberlake was sentenced Friday for his role in the 2011 robbery of a Garda armored vehicle parked next to a Bank of America automated teller machine in Washington, N.C.

Moore pleaded guilty last year to robbery, using and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence, and possessing a firearm in furtherance of a crime. Senior U.S. District Court Judge James C. Fox also sentenced Moore to pay $963,766 in restitution, the difference between the total money taken and the amount recovered.

Co-defendant Emmanuel Wallace III was earlier sentenced to 21 years in prison for the same robbery.
