Greenville police arrested a teenager Friday in connection with the Jan. 2 slaying of a man who had recently moved from Tarboro.
Greenville police Sgt. Joe Friday said detectives arrested Jahrheel Ikle May, 16, for murder.
He is being held in Pitt County without bond.
Authorities said the body of 36-year-old Anthony Antonio Johnson was found on Jan. 2 in the front yard of a Greenville duplex in which he lived.
Police said Johnson had recently moved to Greenville from Tarboro.
According to police reports, Johnson had been shot multiple times in the upper body and legs.
Witnesses reportedly told police they saw Johnson get into a confrontation with at least two other men shortly before they heard the gunfire.
It is unclear what the motive might be, police said.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are forthcoming.
