ASHEVILLE — A Western North Carolina couple has pleaded guilty to filing at least 1,000 false income tax returns, getting more than $3.5 million.
Court documents show that 45-year-old Senita Birt Dill and 40-year-old Ronald Jeremy Knowles used tax preparation software programs and fraudulently obtained personal information to get refunds.
Prosecutors say the couple rented a lake home in Polk County and used addresses of the nearby vacation homes to file false returns. Prosecutors say the couple took the refund checks from mailboxes at those homes.
Prosecutors say the scheme started in 2009 and ended in May.
Dill faces up to 27 years in prison and a $500,000 fine when she is sentenced. Knowles faces up to 25 years in prison and a $500,000 fine.

Government error
Since the government made this error with our tax dollars they need to figure out a way to repay it out of their paychecks or cut some jobs. 3.5 million is astonishing error amount of our hard earned money. And if we would of made this error on any of our tax filings they demand interest so we would like the same in return. Wonder why our schools have no money to pay our teachers and hard working officers and fire departments. . God bless America. If God split the Red Sea for Moses we need to pray hard for him to get the corruption out of government.
