SALISBURY — Authorities say a Rowan County deputy has been fired after he was charged with stalking a former girlfriend.

Chine Grove Police arrested 33-year-old Brian Long late Saturday night. He was an officer at the county jail.

Investigators say Long placed a tracking device on his former girlfriend's car. The sheriff's office fired Long on Friday.

Long is being held at the Cabarrus County jail, awaiting a court hearing Monday.

It wasn't known if he had a lawyer.
