BANGKOK, Thailand — The Thai military is sending unarmed troops to help keep the peace in the capital Bangkok after a day of violent clashes between police and anti-government protesters.
Army spokesman Col. Sansern Kaewkamnerd said the navy and air force agreed to help police cope with protesters from the People's Alliance for Democracy, who tried on Tuesday to blockade parliament.
The police cleared the protesters Tuesday morning by using tear gas, but the demonstrators kept regrouping to confront them. Clashes injured more than 100 people.
Sansern said the military personnel would not carry firearms.
