A 79-year-old woman was taken to the hospital Saturday night after her car was hit by someone who ran a red light, police said.

Police said Mary Dunn was driving east on Peachtree Street about 5:30 p.m. Saturday when she collided with another vehicle that was headed south on Grace Street.

The driver of the other vehicle, Edna Johnson, 61, failed to stop for a red light, said Rocky Mount Police Sgt. Gary Wester.

Dunn was transported to the hospital for observation, Wester said.
