Someone bought a Carolina Cash 5 lottery ticket worth $224,303 in Rocky Mount. The ticket, which matched all five numbers in Tuesday night’s drawing, was sold at a Rite Aid store at 800 Raleigh Road. The winning numbers for the drawing are: 5-10-11-16-29.

Officials from the N.C. Education Lottery advise the owner of the winning ticket to sign it immediately. Players have 180 days from the date of a Carolina Cash 5 drawing to claim prizes. The nearest regional claim center is located in Raleigh.

If it turns out the winner lives in Rocky Mount, it would be the 13th Carolina Cash 5 jackpot win for the city, and the third of 2011. Becky Joyner won $163,927 in the Jan. 11 drawing and Jeffrey Glover won $104,294 in the Feb. 19 drawing. The top Carolina Cash 5 jackpot winner from Rocky Mount was the first, Cora Larkins. She won $488,063 in the August 21, 2007 drawing.

Since the lottery began through June 30 of last year, Nash County players have won more than $60.3 million in prizes. During the same time, Nash County education programs have received more than $16.5 million in lottery funds.

60.3 million

Is that number correct? Lottery players in Nash County have won 60.3 million in prizes. I am assuming that is since the lottery first began. Anyway, if that number is correct then it appears that Nash County lottery players are doing better financially than the schools. Maybe Nash County doesn't need a 90 million dollar Sanderson Farms plant built. Sounds like they are earning tens of millions of dollars from the education lottery.

Concerned

With all the crime going on in Rocky Mount I would be really scared to cash in ticket for fear of being robbed!

WOW!

Congrats!!

Interpretation

"Since the lottery began through June 30 of last year, Nash County players have won more than $60.3 million in prizes. During the same time, Nash County education programs have received more than $16.5 million in lottery funds."

Interpreted: Nash County Players have thrown away more than $76.8 million. I wonder if they can track how much of that came from people who can't afford to pay their rent and buy a ticket in hopes of a miracle. It's sad to think about these hopless people.
