A 69-year-old Whitakers man died Sunday afternoon after a
two-vehicle collision at the intersection of Seven Bridges Road and Battleboro-Leggett Road in Edgecombe County.

The man, William Clark Bell, was traveling east in a 2006 Chevy pickup on Seven Bridges Road about 1:10 p.m., N.C. Highway Patrol Trooper Timothy Pope said.

Bell stopped at a stop sign at the four-way intersection, but he failed to see an oncoming vehicle, Pope said.

Bobby Ray Williams, 46, of the Battleboro community, was driving a 2004 Ford Mustang GT north on Battleboro-Leggett Road.

Bell proceeded into the intersection, failing to yield to the oncoming vehicle, which caused the two vehicles to collide, Pope said.

Williams suffered from injuries caused by an airbag. His passenger, Mozell Davis, 47, of Tarboro, had left leg injuries, Pope said.

Bell was taken to Nash General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
