Two men were jailed without bond Thursday in connection with an aggravated assault that claimed the life of a Rocky Mount man.

Michael Bernard Perry, 27, and Billy Ray Coppage Jr., 31, were charged with first-degree murder. Perry was also charged with possession of a firearm by a felon and Coppage was served with an outstanding assault warrant.

Rocky Mount police said on Wednesday night, the suspects were at Gentlemen’s Playground on Dominick Drive when they got into an altercation with Jamey Lee Silver, 42. According to a press release, officers responded around 11:45 p.m. to a disturbance in the parking lot of the strip club but when officers arrived, the suspects had fled the scene.

Silver was found in the parking lot of the strip club and taken to Nash General Hospital before being transferred to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, where he later died.

Silver’s death is the city’s 10th in 2014.
