Three Nash-Rocky Mount schools were briefly placed on lockdown Friday following a report of gunshots being fired in the neighboring area.
D.S. Johnson Elementary School, Fairview Elementary School and the Teacher Resource Center were placed on lockdown shortly before 11 a.m.
It was determined that there was no direct threat to any of the schools, but principals were advised to go into lockdown as a precaution. Police checked in with the schools to ensure that students and staff members were safe.
The lockdown was lifted at about 11:20 a.m.
Parents were notified of the lockdown through a phone notification message and a letter from principals Michele Royster and Janie McIntyre.
