Rocky Mount’s Eastern Carolina BBQ Throw Down will be featured on “BBQ Pit Wars,” a television show airing at 5 p.m. Wednesday on the Destination America Network.

“BBQ Pit Wars” follows four noted barbecue players as they compete against each other in some of the toughest barbecue competitions for top dollar prizes and bragging rights. Only one will be named Master of the BBQ Pit Wars. The show will highlight these four competitors at the Eastern Carolina BBQ Throw Down in October 2013 in downtown Rocky Mount.

The Eastern Carolina BBQ Throw Down is in its sixth year and is sanctioned by the Kansas City BBQ Society and hosted by the city of Rocky Mount. Last year’s event drew 56 teams from New Jersey to Georgia, and one team from Colorado.

“While the focus are these four competitors, it was great to see a network travel to Rocky Mount and capture this spectacular event,” said Debbie Julio, Rocky Mount special events coordinator.

The 2014 Eastern Carolina BBQ Throw Down will take place Oct. 10-11.
