A Tarboro High School student died from injuries he received in a Sunday car crash that hurt three others.

Authorities said Randy Higgs, 18, died Monday night at Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. Hospital officials said William Ruffin II, 18, is listed in serious condition while Timothy Earl Suggs, 18, is listed in fair condition. Timothy Lee Dickens, 18, also was in the crash but has been released from the hospital and is recovering at home.

N.C. Highway Patrol officials said Suggs reportedly fell asleep at the wheel around 4 a.m. Sunday and crossed the center line on N.C. 33 south of Tarboro. The 2000 Mitsubishi ran off the left side of the roadway before striking a ditch and overturning, authorities said.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing. No charges have been filed.
