Suspects sought in series of unrelated armed robberies

From Staff Reports

Monday, October 19, 2009

Rocky Mount police are looking for several suspects in a series of unrelated armed robberies reported during the past few days.

Four men wearing black jackets and gloves reportedly robbed three guests at a motel in the Gold Rock community shortly after midnight Monday, police said.

The four unknown suspects knocked on the door and forced their way into the motel room, according to the police report. All of the men were brandishing handguns.

One of the suspects ordered the victims – two men and a woman – onto the floor while the other men pillaged the room. The men took a briefcase, car keys, gold chains, a cell phone, a purse and a wallet, police reported.

The suspects were last seen driving a dark colored Chevy Suburban traveling south on N.C. 4. Police units canvassed the area, authorities said, but the suspects were not found.

Home invasion

In another incident early Sunday, an unknown man reportedly broke into a woman’s home on the 800 block of South Tillery Street. The suspect, dressed in all black including a scarf covering his face, forced the women to the ground and threatened her with a small handgun, police said.

The woman at first did not cooperate with the suspect’s demands for money, she told police, and the man searched the house for money and jewelry.

“The suspect went to the victim’s bedroom looking for money and jewelry, and when he could not locate the items, he returned to the living room area and dragged the victim to the doorway of the bedroom,” Capt. Laura Fahnestock said.

The victim then led the man to her jewelry collection, and he took a silver diamond bracelet, a gold bracelet, a silver necklace with diamond pendants, 20 gold and silver rings and several credit cards, police said.

The suspect fled on foot in an unknown direction.

Emergency responders treated the victim, who suffered lacerations to her wrist, but she refused to go to the hospital for treatment, police said.

Robbed on the street

In an unrelated incident around 2:20 a.m. Sunday, a 16-year-old Rocky Mount boy was robbed at gunpoint by two unknown men.

The teen was walking on the 100 block of Thorne Ridge Circle when the men approached him demanding money. The victim didn’t take the demand seriously, police said, until one of the suspects pulled out a handgun.

The 16-year-old told the men he didn’t have any money, according to the police report, and one of the suspects hit him in the face with a beer bottle, cutting his skin.

The teen was not cooperative with the investigation, authorities said, and he told investigators he didn’t want police involvement.

Convenience store shooting

Police, meanwhile, continue to search for three unknown suspects accused of robbing a Kangaroo Convenience Mart on the 1800 block of North Wesleyan Boulevard around 1 a.m. Thursday.

A 60-year-old store clerk told police one of the three men walked around the counter carrying a handgun, fired one shot through the store window and then struck him in the head with the gun.

The three suspects, all wearing bandanas across their face, demanded the clerk open the cash register, but he was too hurt to get up, police said.

The three suspects fled on foot. The store clerk was taken to Nash General Hospital, where he was treated and released.

Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to call the Twin County Crime Stoppers at 252-977-1111.
