Superintendent to present budget to school board

Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools Superintendent Anthony Jackson is scheduled to make a presentation on the 2014-15 school budget during the school board’s monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at the the Nashville Central Auditorium.

In a previous meeting, the board was given an estimated look at the upcoming school year budget. Chief Finance Officer Susan Blackwell said at the meeting the district is basing the budget on numbers from 2013-14.

“We do anticipate a slight increase,” Blackwell said. “We will anticipate the increase in employee benefits as well as salary increase of 2 percent.”

The board will discuss whether to approve other items such as the new proficiency standards, read to achieve academy, district bullying prevention campaign and field trips.

Robin Cox, district communications coordinator, will recognize the Nash-Rocky Mount Public Schools’ Quiz Bowl, Spelling Bee and Battle of the Books winners at the meeting. The meeting also will give recognition to the N.C. Academy School business officials and a National Board Certified nurse. Thomas Crabtree, assistant superintendent of human resources, will discuss personnel recommendations and an update on vacancies will be given at the meeting. The school board’s work session will begin at 5:30 p.m.
