Local faith leaders are joining with police on Tuesday to present a public gang awareness summit.
The Guiding A Non-violent Generation Awareness Summit will start at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Greater Joy Baptist Church at 322 Anderson Street. Police officials will give attendees a crash-course in local gangs and what the department is doing to combat them.
“We are trying to take systematic approaches to combat some of the violence going on in our city,” said Bishop Shelton C. Daniel of Greater Joy Baptist Church “The Rocky Mount Police Department will do a complete seminar as to what to look for in relation to gangs and will provide some solutions to the problem. We are specifically targeting ages 6 to 10 because according to the statistical data, that’s the age group gang members are also targeting.”
