A car missing from Rocky Mount since Feb. 18 finally turned up, only it was found in the Tar River.

The Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Department received calls about a car found in the river around 1:30 p.m. Thursday near N.C. 97 and Leggett Road, Sheriff James Knight said.

Divers from the Rocky Mount Fire Department found no bodies inside the vehicle, a 2013 Nissan Rogue, Knight said.

“We think when they were done joyriding it and everything, they came up to the edge of the bank and just pushed it in,” Knight said.

The car’s information has been passed along to the N.C. Department of Motor Vehicles, and the case will be investigated by the Rocky Mount Police Department, Knight said.
