The Nash-Rocky Mount Board of Education quickly and unanimously passed a resolution Monday allowing the county to borrow money necessary to fund the construction of a new high school.
The resolution dictates that the Board of Education sign over the high school construction site to the county so the county can use the land as collateral for the loan.
“It’s a formality,” said Mark Strickland, special assistant for auxiliary services in the district. “It’s very similar to the process we went through to build Nash Central High School.”
The resolution also allows the county to have the sales tax on construction materials reimbursed, thereby lowering the total financing cost and saving money, Strickland said.
The construction for the new $38 million high school remains on schedule to start in March.
The board will hold a work session Monday and discuss the first semester end-of-class testing results.
