An 83-year-old Rocky Mount woman was pushed to the ground after attempting to
combat a robber in her home last week, police said.
Margie Donald told authorities she was awakened early in the morning by a loud
noise in her home on the 900 block of New Street. Donald went to investigate
the disturbance and was confronted by a young male wearing a mask, she said.
“(Donald) picked up a stick and struck the suspect – which had no effect – and
the suspect pushed Margie down,” the police report stated. “The suspect went
to the kitchen, took a wallet belonging to (her 80-year-old husband) Frank
Donald and then left the home.”
A few minutes later, the suspect reentered the home, hugged Donald, apologized
to her and told her to call the police before fleeing on foot.
Donald did not suffer major injuries from the altercation. Anyone with
information about the robbery is asked to call Rocky Mount police at
972-1411.
