Power has been restored to 94 Rocky Mount electricity customers after to an early morning wreck knocked down a transmission pole.
Initial replacement of the pole was estimated at 10 hours, but crews at the scene were able to replace it with a steel pole and restore power just after 6 p.m.
Rocky Mount police said the incident happened around 4 a.m. Thursday on the 1300 block of Bethlehem Road when a suspected drunk driver hit an electric pole and snapped the pole into three pieces. Information on the suspect is not available.
Rocky Mount Public Utilities Director Rich Worsinger said the wooden pole – which holds transmission and distribution circuits – was snapped into three pieces.
