Nash County Post 58 defeated Cary Post 67, 8-5 on Monday night at Northern Nash to earn the American Legion Area One East championship.
Post 58 (20-4) will play in the state title series beginning Friday at Clark-LeClair Stadium on the campus of East Carolina.
Post 58 last advanced to the state championship in 1973.
Post 58 swept Cary Post 67, 3-0 in the best-of-five series. Bill Clark earned the win in Game 3, and Post 58 benefited from home runs off the bats of Tyler Clark and Xavier Macklin. Clark hit a pair of home runs and drove in three runs.
T.J. Taylor earned MVP honors for Post 58. He pitched six shutout innings in Game 1. Taylor finished the series 4-for-10 at the plate with 3RBI.
Post 58 beat Post 67, 7-6 on Sunday night at Cary High. Mike Williams hit a home run and earned the victory on the mound. Bill Clark earned the save on a night when Macklin and Ben Fish had a pair of hits each for Post 58.
