An investigation into shoplifting of allergy medicine escalated Monday to a bomb threat, Nashville police said.
According to a press release, employees at CVS at 101 W. Washington St. in Nashville called police shortly after 11 a.m. about a suspect who fled the store after allegedly stealing allergy medicine.
The suspect, Walter S. Wright, was found at the Nashville library – where he reportedly was causing a disturbance – and returned to the pharmacy. Police reportedly searched the suspect’s bag and found the pilfered items.
“Inside the travel bag, a box was located and the suspect indicated that everyone was going to die if they touched it,” according to the press release.
Police shut down the store, cleared the parking lot and contacted the State Bureau of Investigation Bomb Squad. Officials said the bomb squad analyzed the package, which was determined to be a box of books. CVS was reopened around 2:30 p.m. Monday.
Wright, of Reading, Pa., was charged with larceny and damage to property. Additional charges are pending. Wright, 37, was jailed in Nash County under a $75,000 secured bond.
