A Rocky Mount teen died early Friday morning after he and three other people were shot on the 700 block of Branch Street.

Rocky Mount police responded around 12:30 a.m. to a shooting involving multiple victims. Police found two victims upon arrival and EMS took both to Nash UNC Health Care, where Devonta Eburg, 18, died from his wounds. Police said two other gunshot victims arrived at the hospital a short time later.

Two of the victims — a 21-year-old man and a 26-year-old man — were treated and released from Vidant Medical Center in Greenville. The fourth victim, a 17-year-old woman, was treated and released from Nash UNC Health Care.

Police would not say what the victims were doing at the apartment complex when the shots were fired or release a description of the suspected shooter. Authorities said the investigation is ongoing and detectives are following up on leads.

Until those who know who "they" are and be willing to tell law enforcement who "they" are, nothing is going to change. The police can not solve crimes alone. So all of these folks who are up here leaving these comments, what are you doing? How many crimes have you solved by contacting law enforcement with concrete information?

I love reading comments that have no solutions and false information. And many times comments don't even have anything to do with the crime such as bringing up the Event Center. SMDH!

Those who know

are the Rocky Mount PD they watch state level crime take place until the offender can be charged federally. Just hope that no one in your family or you know become victims as the PD allow crime to take place and only watch.

When you look at the high incidence of crime in this town, the causes are numerous, but could probably be summed up in 3 phrases: The lack of morality, the lack of good jobs, and the lack of pro-active policing. When I was growing up in this town some 50+ years ago, most parents at least tried to teach their kids right from wrong, even taking them to church most Sundays. Nowadays, many parents totally ignore the Bible and it's teachings, let alone teach their kids about it. Our legislators have made it illegal for school teachers to even discuss the Bible in their classrooms. The majority of the manufacturing jobs have been shipped overseas, making it that much more difficult for the average young person to find employment that provides a decent wage. With no jobs available and no moral principles to guide them, they often turn to crime in an effort to fill the void. Finally, our police officials need to face the crime situation pro-actively. They already know where the crime-laden areas are in this town and should begin concentrating their efforts in those communities, even installing security cameras to be manned 24 hours a day. While there is more that could be done, this would certainly represent a good start.

Mr. Miss? Shamus

Thank you for making my point clear, 25 years ago young POOR BLACK BROTHERS were killing and being killed by each other as they are today, I work with young POOR BLACK BROTHERS every day as my money allow.(because the "well-to-do educated blacks won't financially contribute but every time the camera is on they plaster their faces and run their traps) ) AGAIN !!! we're in the trenches with the "gang bangers" creating jobs and rebuilding lives as they rebuild their communities. It's not so much a truce but respect, they know who's real and who's full of schitt. in this life style there's no room to let down your guard because it's war and if you've not realized it POOR young black brothers and sisters are killing each other, no other race is doing as our POOR young black brothers and sisters. The POOR BLACKS are as they were slaves 400 years ago and the EDUCATED BLACKS are as the FREE BLACKS and they are master over the POOR. THAT'S THE DAMN PROBLEM "EDUCATED BLACKS ENSLAVING POOR BLACKS. Moral Indignity

I feel for the Black Community members who live in the higher crime areas of this city. However, our crime problem involves the entire commubity, whether effected personally or not. All of the "law abiding citizens" in this community should be outraged. We continue to ask why this community is not expanding in jobs, growth, and every category that will create the atmosphere that should attract those qualities needed to do just that. It's easy to talk about more money and more racial harmony to solve the problem. The truth lies in personal responsibility, character, and moral dignity. Gangs, drugs, and the lack of a city administration taking responsibilty for the problem and truly seeking a way to solve the problem rather than hiding behind such things a wasting money on a civic center is not going to solve our problem. I truly beiieve that racism is not the problem within the city citizens as much as it is in the administration and council, especially those members who have personal agendas attatched to their votes. Just what the answers to our problems are, I doubt that anyone has it. I do know that just throwing money at it will not change it. Until, we the citizens stand up against the gangs, the drug traffic, and demand that those with no morals or family values "get the hell out of our city" nothing else is going to solve our problems.

Stand Up???

And just how do "we the citizens stand up against the gangs, the drug traffic...?" If you have something specific that "we the citizens" should do, then say it, please; otherwise, everything being said is just chin boogie. In my opinion, the only thing that can stop these thugs is fear of the consequences of their actions, and right now they have no fear. I'm not aware of any way to instill fear into them without using some force more powerful than they are, and that would probably involve some violence to sweep them off the streets. In this do-gooder society, that ain't gonna happen.

Well well

The city and the Faith Base Community as tried all they know to address crime and nothing has worked or helped because they don't understand the problem nor do they have a clue as to what to do and will not listen to those that do. Substation? the city tried that the house sits on Clark street burned out. The city with millions of grant dollars through the Faith Base Community have wasted money and time with what they think the answer to the problems in these communities are. The city can find half a million dollars to build a dog park but can't find one cent to help us that live in these communities to rebuild it and the people that live there. We don't need more police or substations in our community and we have to many black churches (5 within 2 blocks of the killing) that does nothing, we need help to purchase those boarded up hoses so that we can create jobs for the people in those communities and teach them how to rebuild their lives and their communities this is what's needed but no one wants to help do that but no soon as another one is killed all the church want to do is march and pray, all the black city council members want to do is show their face when they had the chance to do something to prevent these killings but they won't. BUT POOR BLACK PEOPLE JUST HOLD ON BEACUSE YOUR HELP IS ON THEIR WAY FROM DC. Johnny Cunningham 252-266-3858

Crime Is suppose to be down !

Lets see Rocky Mount City Manager and the Chief of the Rocky Mount Police Department made the comment a few months ago in this very same paper that crime was down. In the past 3 days we have had a home invasion with owner shot,a woman robbed and beaten in the same neighborhood, a 19 yoa male robbed and beaten in Meadowbrook and now a shooting on Branch Street injuring several people and killing 1 ! BUT the manager and city council are more concerned about spending millions of dollars on a civic center. The city needs to take that money and hire more officers and give them better training and more equipment to work with. Why not take some of that money and use it to take one of the vacant houses in that neighborhood and open a police sub station. And what is the mayor doing other then trying to get rich on real estate. If Rocky Mount does not make some changes and get rid of the rift raft in city hall and the city council this city will be another Princeville in the next 5 years ! No businesses or any people want to move to a city on the top ten crime list. There is no leadership in this city. And if a city does not have leadership then it does not grow !!!!!!!!!!!

until Jesus washed you clean by the giving of his blood. To all you Faith Base Community folks that think you're better than the drug dealer, drug user, gang banger, thug, ect. think again because you too were as dirty, filthy rags.

Not news

This is a life style that has been going on for the past 25 years and no one gives a schitt until it's in their own back yard (basketball court or church) so where's this Faith Base Community that has promised to clean up Rocky Mount? NO WHERE TO BE FOUND OR SEEN UNLESS MONEY IS INVOLVED.

25 years ago most of these kids were not alive. So get over it. What you gonna do now is the question. Are you willing to be like Farrakhan and organize a truce meeting with the gang bangers. Huh, or are you scared to do that. Dwelling on the past or who is not doing what is not part of the solution. Real talk my brother.
