Officials are investigating the Monday morning fire of a foot bridge on the city’s Tar River Trail.
Rocky Mount Assistant Fire Chief Mike Varnell said crews responded shortly after 4 a.m. to a fire at a bridge on the trail near to a picnic shelter on River Drive. The fire was quickly extinguished, but about $5,000 in damage was done by the blaze. No one was injured.
Crews closed off the bridge with fire scene tape. The cause is under investigation.
