GASTONIA — A Gaston County teacher's assistant has been suspended with pay and has been fired by the school where he worked after being accused of assaulting a 5-year-old student.
Christopher Diaone Alexander, 26, of Gastonia is charged by police with assault.
According to police, Alexander grabbed a 5-year-old student by the neck and groin on May 31 at an elementary school in Gastonia. Alexander is accused of pinching and squeezing the child's groin from outside his pants.
Gaston County Schools spokeswoman Bonnie Reidy said the school was made aware of the allegations in June, when Alexander was suspended with pay.
Alexander is free on $15,000 bail from the Gaston County jail. It's not known if he has an attorney.
