REIDSVILLE — An assistant basketball coach at Reidsville High School has been arrested and accused of having sex with students.

Reidsville police arrested 32-year-old Allen Scales of Eden on Wednesday and charged him with first-degree statutory rape and two counts of performing a sex act with a student.

Scales also had been a teacher at Reidsville Middle School until he resigned in 2007.

Police began an investigation earlier this month after students and parents at Reidsville High School made allegations. Police say the two female victims were 14- and 18-years old.

The school district suspended Scales without pay Feb. 7 and fired him Monday.

Scales was being held on a $250,000 secured bond. It’s unclear if he has an attorney.
