HICKORY — Authorities have released the name of a man killed in a standoff with deputies in Caldwell County.
Officers say 67-year-old John Settlemyer was shot and killed Thursday morning.
Deputies had been dispatched to a Hickory home in response to a domestic call. As they approached, Settlemyer left the home armed with weapons and shot at deputies.
Capt. B.J. Fore says the suspect died at the scene. None of the officers were hurt and have been placed on administrative leave, which is standard when officers are involved in a shooting. The State Bureau of Investigation is also looking into the shooting.
A nearby day care was put on lockdown during the incident.
