THOMASVILLE — Authorities in Thomasville are investigating a wreck in which a police officer crashed his cruiser into a high school.

A Thomasville police officer reportedly was returning from a call a few blocks away when he struck Thomasville High School around 2 a.m. Tuesday.

Principal Deboy Beamon said when he arrived at the school, he found a patrol cruiser in an assistant principal’s office. Beamon said the bottom four feet of the wall struck by the cruiser is brick, while the rest is windows. Repairs already are under way.

Police Lt. Donnie Rowe said the officer’s name is not being released for now, identifying him only as “an experienced officer.” The officer was not hurt and has not been placed on leave.
