GOLDSBORO – Goldsboro police say remains believed to be those of a kidnapped teenager have been unearthed, and four men are in custody, charged with murder.

Police said Saturday that they believe authorities found the remains of 16-year-old Kennedy Fitzgerald McLaurin Jr. on Saturday in the Seven Springs area. The remains were sent to the state medical examiner in Chapel Hill for identification.

Also Saturday, a fourth person was charged with murder in McLaurin’s death. All four are being held without bond in the Wayne County Jail, awaiting first appearance hearings.

Police say McLaurin was kidnapped Sept. 9 by at least three men.

Sgt. Dwayne Dean said Friday that investigators believe McLaurin was killed and that the crime was neither gang-related nor random.
