WINGATE — At least two fire trucks were damaged when a portion of the building housing the Wingate Volunteer Fire Department collapsed.
No injuries were reported in Friday’s incident.
Brent Moser, vice president of the Wingate Volunteer Fire Department board of directors, said firemen were driving an engine out of the building when a compartment door on the truck malfunctioned and struck a support beam. Moser said two trucks are out of service, adding that the department is waiting for the building to be made safe before taking the trucks out.
Union County’s building inspector has deemed one-third of the building unsafe until repairs can be made.
Fire Marshal Neil Speer said the department was handling fire emergencies with assistance from area departments.
