An NAACP chapter is joining other local organizations in reassuring voters that no photo ID is required to vote in North Carolina.

The Fayetteville chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People is among the groups co-hosting a town hall meeting Monday. Organizers say the event is designed to tell voters how they can protect their votes in November.

Republican lawmakers passed a bill in 2011 that would have required voters to show a government-issued photo ID, but that legislation was vetoed by Democratic Gov. Bev Perdue.

Similar legislation has been enacted in other states.
