ASHEVILLE — State troopers in North Carolina have arrested a Miami man they caught driving a stolen tractor-trailer carrying $250,000 in copper sheeting.
Yubani Millares-Vera, 37, was charged with identity theft, possession of stolen goods and possession of a stolen vehicle. Authorities said Millares-Vera was driving a truck with a flatbed trailer when troopers stopped him on Interstate 26 near Asheville.
Officials said the truck had been stolen earlier Saturday from Washington County, Va. Buncombe County 1st Sgt. Pat Staggs said the patrol, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office and FBI are investigating whether Millares-Vera is part of a south Florida cargo theft ring.
Millares-Vera is being held in the Buncombe County jail under a $700,000 bond. It’s not clear whether he has an attorney.
