MARSHVILLE — North Carolina officials are charging a Union County man with parading into a bar dressed in a stolen police uniform, complete with Taser and handcuffs.

WCNC reports that Christopher Melton of Marshville is charged with impersonating a law enforcement official, possession of a weapon in a bar and possession of stolen property. A message left at Melton’s home Thursday by The Associated Press was not returned.

Marshville police say Melton entered a bar in police garb, identifying himself as an officer with the State Bureau of Investigation and saying he planned to check the restaurant to ensure they were operating properly. Employees got him to leave because it’s illegal to carry a firearm inside an business that serves alcoholic beverages.

Police say the uniform and equipment were stolen from Red Springs.
