ZIRCONIA — A camp counselor has died on a North Carolina lake after his sailboat hit power lines, causing him to get electrocuted.

Henderson County sheriff’s spokesman Frank Stout says the accident happened at Camp Mondamin on Lake Summit at around 11 a.m. Thursday.

Camp director Andrew Bell says counselor Simon Everett was helping pull a sailboat out of the lake when the metal mast accidentally touched a main power line. He was knocked unconscious and later died at a hospital.

Bell says Everett had been a counselor for more than five years.

This was the second death on Lake Summit in less than a week. An 18-year-old died a week ago following a swimming accident.
